Gourmet Burger Kitchen to axe 362 jobs and 26 restaurants despite rescue sale

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (GBK) is to close 26 restaurants and axe 362 roles despite being saved from administration.

The chain has been bought in a rescue deal by Boparan Restaurant Group, which also snapped Carluccio’s out of insolvency earlier in the pandemic.

GBK said it had started to see improvements in trading last year after a major restructuring process in 2018, which saw it shut a raft of sites.

However, the company, which had been owned by South African group Famous Brands, said it slid into administration after the virus impacted upon its liquidity and potential to be sold as a solvent business.

El Oasis Gardeners Get Two More Weeks But Land Sale Seems Inevitable

The gardeners at El Oasis Community Garden enjoyed a small victory earlier this month. Their move-out date was extended to October 18, giving them two more weeks to enjoy their garden’s bounty. It was a small reprieve from the bad news they’d learned from Denver Urban Gardens, which owns the land, less than a month earlier: two-thirds of El Oasis was under contract to be sold.

The sale, brought about to cover the nonprofit’s outstanding debt, is meant to sustain the organization’s ability to provide for more than 180 other gardens it maintains around the city. Without the sale’s revenue, DUG could cease to exist. But once the land — sold in good faith to the nonprofit for $1 in 1988 — is developed, it cannot be replaced.

“I find myself in a pickle,” says Denver City Councilwoman Amanda Sandoval, who’s been contacted by many of her constituents about the

‘Silence of the Lambs’ house for sale just in time for Halloween

“I’m having an old friend for dinner.”

It’s the ultimate real estate listing for fans of creepy movie houses — the home of Buffalo Bill from the 1991 hit film “Silence of the Lambs.”

The 140-year-old house has plenty of other history, too. Its garage served as the general store, post office and train station in 1880 in its Pennsylvania town.

“This 3-story Princess Anne Victorian located in Perryopolis was the home of Buffalo Bill in the film ‘The Silence of the Lambs’ and is situated on 1.76 acres of level land along the Youghiogheny River,” the listing reads. “Original hardwood floors, woodwork, light fixtures, pocket doors, fireplaces and wallpaper are in pristine condition, dating back to 1910 when the home was built. Recent improvements include reflooring the wrap-around porch and gazebo,

Garden Club of Aiken’s holiday greenery sale is underway | Home and Garden

Looking for some festive holiday decorations?

The Garden Club of Aiken is conducting a greenery sale for the second year in a row.

Plans call for $5,000 from the proceeds to be donated to the Friends of the Aiken County Public Library.

The money will be used to help fund new landscaping on the grounds of the library, which is undergoing a major renovation at 314 Chesterfield St. S.W.

The garden club has maintained the landscaping near the facility’s entrance for many years.

“The Friends of the Library are deeply grateful that Aiken’s oldest garden club will continue its historical connection by funding new landscaping through their Christmas greens sale,” said Friends President Bill Reynolds.

The rest of funds raised by the 2020 greenery sale will be returned to the community through the club’s various outreach programs.

Available for purchase from the club are small, medium and large wreaths, garlands,
