A-Rod, Questionable Decisions and What Ifs
|
13 August 2010
A-Rod recently hit his 600th homerun, and this got me thinking about questionable decisions and what ifs.
You’ll see, I was a 17-year-old kid playing amateur ball in Mexico when I was made an offer to play professional baseball in the Mexican League (it is roughly equivalent in level to AAA). I turned the offer down, at the time, baseball didn’t pay so well down South and I had been accepted into one of the best universities in Mexico. I was a masher who was known mostly for his bat, but also as a good defensive first baseman with not much of an arm. I could hit, that was for sure, and I had a good baseball mind. Mental toughness is key to success in the game. Back then I didn’t possess the V-taper beach-body that I do today. I was taller than average, but also thick around the waist and with legs that shook like jell-o.

Comic-Con recently took place in San Diego. Comic-Con is a time when the guy you share your cubicle with (the guy that you have always suspected of being a little weird) dresses up as a Klingon or a Stormtrooper; the brunette receptionist at your dentist’s office dons her Counselor Deanna Troi outfit, or if she has the figure to pull it off, the enslaved Princess Leia bikini; and your boss annoys you with his poor rendition of William Shatner’s Captain Kirk.

If you recall my All-Star Game post, I talked about the ignorance of the Los Angeles-Anaheim area fans. Well, I would like to revise that to include the San Diego area as well. What the hell, let’s make it SoCal. I am appalled at the lack of Baseball Etiquette displayed by these so-called fans.

The National League finally won the All Star Game yesterday after 14 years of disappointment. The game was one of the best in years, a true pitching duel that was decided by a bases-loaded double. The players seemed truly honored to be there and it showed in the way they played.
That is where I will stop my praise of the event. I hope the city of Anaheim is never again awarded an All Star Game. Los Angeles Metropolitan Area has the largest population of ignorant fans that the world of sports has ever known. Add a comment

“Are you s#&tting me?” - Lebron James
With that firm statement LBJ has succinctly put into words what many of us are thinking. What kind of society do we live in the people are mandated to stay in the place they grew up. Let me make this very clear…Cleveland is not a great place to live. I have interviewed many Cleveland residents for this article and the most commonly heard phrase is, “Yeah, Cleveland sucks”.
