Empowering Youth Through Employment

While doing some research for an article, I came across a banner that said, “If I can, you can: Fight Child Poverty.” I asked myself, “What can I do to fight child poverty?” After researching the strategies of that particular website which included sending kids to schools and teaching them about Jesus, I thought a bit more could be done than some form of child welfare. What the World Needs Now: Criticism

If you live in America or similar parts of the world, like me, you've grown up in a consumer based society. Consumerism creates vast sums of wealth and along with it, power. Consumerism and the freedom in which to enact it, is what has brought about our political and economic success. However, as we continue to encourage consumerism we also seem to discourage rhetoric as it is feared the critical thinking that goes along with it might discourage our need to take in crap that we don't require.

This suppression of rhetoric begins in our public school system where we learn to obey and believe what we are told and never really taught to be critical. I often reflect on how the tests I took in the upper levels of grade school all the way through high school never asked me to explain but rather to recite the information I had been told was the truth. Smokers and Non-Smokers

Another Reason Why I Hate Everyone

OMG SMORKING!!!

Smokers piss me off to no ends. I'm not talking about the people at the bar that have the occasional cigarette to supplement their alcohol intake, I'm referring to the bastards that sit in front of the mall and chain smoke to give off the air of coolness. Yes, you're so fucking cool when you exhale near a stroller. Oh yeah, you're even cooler to those 16 year old girls who offer fellatory services in trade for a menthol. Great way to get laid or make a quick buck, buddy. Add a comment

Bearing Your Heart to the Audience

Most people who have spent some time in writing classes have probably had a few papers where they attempted to
spill their very essence out on a paper only to have it handed back to them and told that it needs more work. How is it
that after bearing your soul in words that someone else could dare say that it’s not good enough? Recently, I took part in an essay contest held by Campus Life’s “Ignite Your Faith,” a magazine for Christian Teens in college. The essay was supposed to be about addressing the temptations of homosexuality as a Christian. My essay was titled "Two Guys on Fire for Jesus." In my essay, I shared an intimate account of two Christians struggling with temptations of the flesh, here’s an excerpt: Add a comment

The PETArection

A little meerkat named Len drifts a little away from its pack; Len feels comfortable, his family is still right around him. He’s happy, playful, adventuresome. His mother isn’t paying attention to him though. Eventually a hawk makes its way over to the meerkat, swoops down with ferocity, and catches its prey. Feeding relentlessly on the weak, defenseless, meerkat in front of Len’s oblivious mother, if only she had been more perceptive…

Bigotous Bigot Slingers

I’ve noticed an increasing use of the word ‘bigot’ lately and, frankly, it’s starting to piss me off. It’s almost as if those throwing around such a powerful word don’t even know the meaning of it. Referring to someone as a bigot can crush their world if the term is used in politics. Behind the mask of anonymity, receiving the insult of ‘bigot’ isn’t quite as hurtful or reputation crushing but it is still a brash term to use.

Let’s take a look at the definition of the word bigot: Add a comment

Shitty Stuff I Like

I'm getting a little burned out on writing about stuff that bugs the crap out of me, so, today, I'm going to tell you about stuff that I love. Stuff that I love that will possibly ruin my reputation as some geek who hates on things to some geek who just writes out of boredom.
Oh well. Add a comment

Americans Shouldn't Cosplay

*This article was originally written and posted in August of 2007*

I'm totally going to get sued for tonight's post, but I can't let this go on any longer.

Let me begin by explaining what 'cosplay' is for those of you who don't know; cosplay is a conjunction of the words 'costume' and 'play.' Fanboys and fangirls dress up like their favorite characters and go to conventions and show of the awesomeness of how much they look like their fantasy counterparts (be it video games, anime, manga, movies, etc.).

I'm here to say that this should be banned in America, my reasons for this statement follow.
