Human Rights Violations Take a Back Seat
To the Pursuit of Big Shiny Gold Discs
For a brief moment in time, it seemed that the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games might be overshadowed by China's gross human rights violations.
Then in March, they released these:

Genocide Medallions
GOLD!!!!!! Mmmmmm! Precious… lustrous… gold! Why the mere thought of them there platter sized doubloons makes me forget all about trivial things like genocide and subjugation of entire peoples and cultures.
Of course, anyone with a spec of historical knowledge could have seen this one coming:
The value of human life has always been superseded by the pursuit of shiny, rare minerals. Why just one of them there ducats is probably worth well more than 1,000 human lives.

Fuck humanity, let's go for the Gold!
